The biggest motivation behind my creative research projects has always been people. Talking to people, reading about their thoughts and opinions and learning about different communities has always inspired my creative processes. Key to this is my belief that shared cultural activities - from cooking to listening to music - can offer us a platform to enrich our understanding of different communities and perspectives. With this in mind, I'm always keen to participate in different conversations, attend gigs, concerts - all sorts!
Here are a few memorable events I've been a part of.
I presented the initial concept for the Synthia synthesiser at Elevator Sound's Machina Bristonica 2023 on the Discussions Stage. Here I chatted about how biodata sonification can be a valuable creative and compositional tool and my own experiences of learning music technology.
I also participated in the pedagogy panel for the Commercial Electronic Musical Instruments in 21st Century Music Practice hosted by the University of West London. Alongside talking about my own research methodologies, I discussed how to ensure that the generous synthesiser collection donated to the university from Pete Townshend will be used for educational uses, but also for the wider community in West London too.
